Introduction to Quadratic Functions

Step 6: Plot all points and sketch the parabola
The x-intercepts (where \(y = 0\)) are \((1, 0)\) and \((3, 0)\).
Quadratic Equations
A quadratic equation is an equation that can be written in the form:
where \(a \neq 0\).
Solving a quadratic equation means finding all values of \(x\) that make the equation true. These values are called the solutions, roots, or zeros of the equation.
Graphically, the solutions are the x-intercepts of the parabola.

The expression under the square root in the quadratic formula is called the discriminant:
