Perpendicular Bisector Explorer

Run Fullscreen

About This MicroSim

This interactive tool has two modes: 1. Step Mode: Learn the construction step-by-step 2. Explore Mode: Verify the equidistant property by dragging point T

Construction Steps

Step Action
1 Given segment AB
2 Draw arc from A (radius > ½AB)
3 Draw arc from B (same radius)
4 Mark intersections P and Q
5 Draw line PQ (perpendicular bisector)

The Equidistant Property

Key Theorem: Every point on the perpendicular bisector is equidistant from the endpoints of the segment.

This means for any point T on the perpendicular bisector: TA = TB

How to Use

  1. Click through steps to see the construction
  2. Click "Explore" to enter exploration mode
  3. Drag point T up and down along the bisector
  4. Watch the distances - TA always equals TB!

Learning Objectives

  • Construct a perpendicular bisector
  • Verify the equidistant property through exploration
  • Evaluate why the construction creates both a bisector and a perpendicular

Bloom's Taxonomy Level

Applying and Evaluating - Performing construction and verifying properties.
