Perpendicular Bisector Explorer
About This MicroSim
This interactive tool has two modes: 1. Step Mode: Learn the construction step-by-step 2. Explore Mode: Verify the equidistant property by dragging point T
Construction Steps
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Given segment AB |
| 2 | Draw arc from A (radius > ½AB) |
| 3 | Draw arc from B (same radius) |
| 4 | Mark intersections P and Q |
| 5 | Draw line PQ (perpendicular bisector) |
The Equidistant Property
Key Theorem: Every point on the perpendicular bisector is equidistant from the endpoints of the segment.
This means for any point T on the perpendicular bisector: TA = TB
How to Use
- Click through steps to see the construction
- Click "Explore" to enter exploration mode
- Drag point T up and down along the bisector
- Watch the distances - TA always equals TB!
Learning Objectives
- Construct a perpendicular bisector
- Verify the equidistant property through exploration
- Evaluate why the construction creates both a bisector and a perpendicular
Bloom's Taxonomy Level
Applying and Evaluating - Performing construction and verifying properties.
