Description
The Points and Lines Explorer is an interactive geometry MicroSim that helps students understand fundamental concepts of points and lines through hands-on manipulation. Students can create, move, and connect geometric points to form lines, exploring how two points determine a unique line and observing the properties of geometric objects.
This simulation provides two distinct modes of interaction:
Move Mode: Students can click anywhere on the canvas to create new points, which are automatically labeled with consecutive letters (A, B, C, etc.). Points can be dragged to new positions, allowing exploration of how geometric relationships change with movement. Each point displays its coordinates when hovered over.
Connect Mode: Students can click on any two points to create a line that passes through them. The line extends infinitely in both directions (represented by arrows) and is labeled with the notation \(\overleftrightarrow{AB}\) where A and B are the connected points. This demonstrates the geometric principle that exactly one line can be drawn through any two distinct points.
