Ohm's Law Calculator

Run in fullscreen

Description

This MicroSim presents three panels for Voltage, Current, and Resistance. Lock any two panels with their slider controls and the third panel automatically computes and displays the calculated value highlighted in red. The Ohm's Law triangle at the bottom visually reinforces which relationship is active. A live power readout shows \(P = V \times I\) in appropriate units.

Key Concepts

  • Ohm's Law: \(V = IR\) — voltage equals current times resistance.
  • Given any two quantities, the third is uniquely determined: \(I = V/R\), \(R = V/I\).
  • The Ohm's Law triangle is a memory aid: cover the unknown to read the formula.
  • Power is always \(P = VI\), regardless of which two quantities are the independent variables.
  • Units: Voltage in volts (V), Current in amperes (A) or milliamperes (mA), Resistance in ohms (Ω) or kilohms (kΩ).
