Digital Devices Explorer
Some digital devices collect a lot of personal information about you. Some collect a little. And some — like a regular toaster — don't collect any information at all (yet!). Click on each device below to find out.
How to Use
- Explore mode (default): Click any numbered marker on the image — or any label in the panel on the right — to see whether that device collects personal information and what kind.
- Quiz mode: Click the Quiz button at the top. You'll be given a device name and asked to find it on the image. See how many you can get right!
What's the color code?
| Color | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Red | Yes — this device collects personal information |
| Orange | Some — it depends on the device or how it's used |
| Green | Not yet — this device does not collect personal information |

Why does this matter?
You will learn a lot more about private and personal information in Chapter 5. For now, the big idea is this: not every device is the same. The more a device knows about you, the more careful you should be about how you use it. Pause, think, act!
