Grade 6-8 Health Education — Chapters

This section contains the chapter-by-chapter content for the Grade 6-8 band of the Health Education intelligent textbook. Chapters are sequenced so that each one builds on the concepts introduced earlier — start at Chapter 1 and move forward in order, or use the learning graph to jump to a specific concept and trace its prerequisites.   2. Relationships, Boundaries, And Consent — Explores relationship structures, healthy versus unhealthy relationship dynamics, personal boundary-setting, and the critical distinction between consent and coercion.
  3. Healthcare Access And Sexual Health — Covers how adolescents access comprehensive health care and understand STIs, HIV, treatment options, and strategies for preventing infection and unintended pregnancy.
  4. Emotional Well-Being And Mental Health — Introduces warning signs for suicide, self-harm, and emotional distress alongside empathy, communication, and healthy strategies for managing stress and resolving conflict.
  5. Stigma, Bias, And Brain Health — Examines how bias, exclusion, and bullying affect mental health, how media representation reduces stigma, and what keeps the brain healthy, including Alzheimer's and dementia.
  6. Sleep, Fitness, And Emergency Response — Builds skills in sleep habits, workout planning, emergency medication use and the Heimlich maneuver, and recognizing and responding to emergencies.
  7. Digital Safety And School Safety — Addresses digital risks such as sharing explicit content, power dynamics, and peer pressure, plus the collective actions that keep schools safe.
  8. Substances And The Developing Brain — Details how alcohol, tobacco, nicotine, cannabis, and other drugs affect the developing brain and body, and the cultural teachings that protect youth.
  9. Substance Use Culture, Safety, And Risk — Covers commercial tobacco addiction, safe medication storage and disposal, and the elevated injury, violence, and health risks tied to substance use.
  10. Substance Use Disorder, Recovery, And Policy — Explains substance use disorder, relapse, treatment, community recovery supports, impaired driving risk, and the industry advertising that shapes health disparities.
  11. Health Influences And Information Literacy — Opens the cross-cutting Skill Standards strand: analyzing social, cultural, and media influences on health practices, and accessing and evaluating valid health information.
  12. Advocacy, Goal Setting, And Health Messaging — Develops communication, conflict-resolution, self-advocacy, and refusal skills, then applies them to goal-setting, decision-making, and designing health messages for real audiences.
