About This MicroSim
A four-ring concentric infographic of a sustainable LLM cost-monitoring operating model. Daily activities are at the center; quarterly activities are at the outermost ring. Each activity shows its owner role (engineer, EM, finance, compliance) and the named artifact it produces. How to Use
- Read the rings. Daily → Weekly → Monthly → Quarterly. Information flows outward — daily alerts feed weekly reviews; weekly reviews feed monthly retrospectives; etc.
- Hover each activity. Read the artifact each one produces.
- Toggle owners. See the role distribution. A real operating model needs all four roles or it has a structural gap.
- Design your own. Walk away with a hand-drawn version for your team.

30 minutes inside Chapter 20, longer if the activity is "design your own ring."
Prerequisites
Most of the textbook. This sim is the synthesis artifact.
Activities
- Walk all four rings (5 min). Hover each dot, read each artifact.
- Identify the role with the lightest weekly load (5 min). Often it's finance — the model assumes monthly cadence is enough for finance involvement. Discuss whether that's appropriate.
- Design your own (15 min). Take blank paper, draw four rings, populate with activities your team would actually run. Compare to the canonical version.

Approve as-is for Chapter 20. Score: 86/100 (B+). Concentric rings is the right primitive for L6 "design" — the visual scaffold gives the learner a starting structure to riff against.
What works
- Bloom alignment. L6 "design" requires creating something; the sim gives the learner a canonical example to remix.
- Role coloring is the load-bearing pedagogy. Without it, the rings are just a list. With it, the role gaps are visible.
- Artifact-per-activity design. Every dot produces a named output — teaches that operational cadence ≠ meeting cadence; it's about deliverables.
Gaps
- Not actually a builder. L6 demands "create"; this is closer to "study a canonical example." A drag-to-add-activity affordance would close the gap. Score impact: −5.
- No information-flow arrows between rings. The narrative says "information flows outward" but the diagram doesn't visualize the flow. Score impact: −3.
- Static activity list. Cannot remove, rename, or move activities. Score impact: −2.

Recommendation
Approve as a study artifact, but the L6 alignment is weaker than the L3-L5 sims in this textbook because there's no actual creation. Open follow-up tickets for drag-to-add and inter-ring arrows (gaps 1 and 2).
