  • Defining success narrowly: The demo measures success on the metric the AI optimizes for, not the metric the customer cares about. "99% accuracy on our benchmark" does not mean "99% accuracy on your data"

Media Literacy: Hearing the Song Without Drowning

It is a superset of digital literacy (introduced in Chapter 5) that encompasses not just digital media but all forms of communication — including the press releases, keynote presentations, social media posts, and investor reports that constitute the siren's choir.

Media literacy applied to AI coverage requires specific skills:

Odysseus survived the sirens by having his crew plug their ears with wax while he had himself tied to the mast. It does not prevent you from hearing the song of AI hype. It prevents the song from steering your ship.
