Evolution of Graph Query Languages Timeline
Run the Evolution of Graph Query Languages Timeline MicroSim Fullscreen
About This MicroSim
This interactive timeline traces the evolution of graph query languages from 2002 to 2025 — beginning with RDF and SPARQL for the semantic web, through the industry innovation era of Cypher, GSQL, and openCypher, into the ISO standardization of GQL, and on to vendor adoption roadmaps. Milestones are color-coded by era so learners can see how the field moved from academic triple stores to a single formally standardized graph query language.
How to Use
Hover over a milestone for a one-line summary, and click it to read the full detail in the panel below the timeline. Use the Filter dropdown to view a single era, Zoom +/- to change the scale, and Fit All to frame every milestone from 2002 through 2025.
