About This MicroSim
This hub-and-spoke infographic gives a visual overview of the six major medical coding systems — ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, NDC, LOINC, and SNOMED CT — that together describe diagnoses, procedures, supplies, drugs, lab results, and clinical concepts. Each system radiates from a central hub, and faint connectors show where systems overlap (HCPCS Level I is CPT; SNOMED is more granular than ICD), reinforcing that a graph database can map relationships among codes from different systems.
How to Use
Hover or click any coding system to load its details in the panel: its governing body, purpose, code structure, a worked example code, and what it is used for. Compare the systems to see the division of labor — ICD for diagnoses, CPT and HCPCS for services and supplies, NDC for drug products, LOINC for lab observations, and SNOMED CT for rich clinical terminology.
