Description¶
Read six causes of faults on an SO-ARM101, each with what it looks like and what to check first. Then read eight symptoms and choose the most likely cause of each. Used in Chapter 8.
The six causes are power (missing or wrong voltage), a duplicate or wrong ID, a loose cable or connector, a loose horn or gear, overload or heat, and a calibration that is out of date. They follow the Chapter 8 section "When Something Goes Wrong".
The set of symptoms is illustrative. Two of them draw on the STS3215 data sheet's 70 °C protection and a LeRobot maintainer's comment on a burnt-out gripper, and one draws on a user's report of a "12 V" adapter that gave about 16 V. The others were written for this MicroSim.
Lesson Plan¶
Grade level: Middle school and up (age 12+). Time: 10 to 15 minutes.
- Explore. Press each letter and read what the cause looks like and what to check first.
- Sort the causes. Which of the six are electrical, which are mechanical, and which are about stored numbers? Which one needs no tools at all to check?
- Eight symptoms. Switch to Eight symptoms. Find the one clue in each symptom (when the fault appears, or what a measurement read) and choose a cause by its letter. You get one try for each.
- Think about it. A joint that goes limp is not always broken. What else could have happened?
Specification¶
The learning objective, evidence of mastery and content for this MicroSim are specified in Chapter 8: Building and Calibrating the SO-ARM100.
