Description

Read eight HTTP status codes that come back from the arm's tool server or from a model provider, and choose what the client should do about each one. Used in Chapter 16.

Explore mode lists nine status codes with their meanings, grouped by first digit: 2xx for success, 4xx when the client sent something wrong, and 5xx when the server had a problem. The quiz shows eight responses in a fixed order. You choose one of six actions in the menu, press Check, and read the reason.

Lesson Plan

Grade level: Middle school and up (age 12+). Time: 5 to 10 minutes.

  1. Read the status table. In Explore mode, notice that the first digit says whose problem it is before you read the rest of the code.
  2. Interpret. Press Start. For each response, decide whose problem it is, then choose what the client should do and press Check. You get one try for each response.
  3. Read the reason. The feedback names the right action and gives the reason. Mastery is 7 of 8.
  4. Think about it. Why is it a mistake to retry a 429 at once? Why is it pointless to retry a 400 without changing anything?

A 4xx code means that the request was wrong, so sending the same request again cannot help. A 429 and a 529 are both answered by waiting before the next try.

Specification
