An interactive diagram showing a gene promoter region with CpG dinucleotides. Users toggle methylation on/off for individual CpG sites using checkboxes. When a CpG is unmethylated, the promoter appears open (green), transcription factors bind, and an mRNA molecule is produced. As CpGs become methylated (shown with red methyl group markers), methyl-binding proteins appear, histone deacetylases are recruited, chromatin compacts, and transcription stops. A status bar shows the expression level decreasing as methylation increases. Include labels for DNMT enzymes, MBD proteins, and HDAC complexes.
