A split-screen visualization. The left side shows somatic mosaicism: an embryo divides, and at a user-selected cell division stage, a mutation occurs in one cell. The simulation shows how the mutant clone expands, with affected tissue highlighted in a different color. The right side shows germline mosaicism: the somatic cells are all normal-colored, but a subset of germ cells in the gonad are highlighted as carrying the mutation. A slider controls when during development the mutation occurs, affecting the proportion of mutant cells. Below each diagram, text explains the inheritance implications.
