Beginning Electronics¶
Volt the Robot is the mascot for Beginning Electronics, an introductory course on breadboards, circuits, and hands-on projects. A volt is the SI unit of electric potential difference — the quantity that pushes current through every circuit a student will build in this book — and Volt's own body is a small circuit-board robot with glowing LED eyes, making the character a working example of the subject matter rather than a bystander to it. The name is not a pun so much as a direct citation: Volt is named after the exact physical quantity the course teaches students to measure and control. Volt was chosen so the mascot's identity dissolves into the curriculum — a robot literally built from the components the student is learning to wire together. That makes Volt one of the strongest mascots in the gallery, in the company of mascots like Sparky the Lightbulb, where the character doesn't just represent the subject, it is made of it.
