Token Efficiency¶
Pemba the Red Panda is the mascot for the Token Efficiency textbook. Red pandas are masters of energy efficiency — they live on bamboo, a famously low-calorie food, and survive cold Himalayan winters by minimizing wasted movement and conserving every joule. Pemba was chosen because the species behavior maps directly onto the discipline's central problem: getting maximum useful work out of a constrained resource (LLM tokens) without wasted effort. The choice is strong because the metaphor extends naturally — careful prompt design is the cognitive equivalent of a red panda's efficient foraging — and the species is unusual enough to be memorable, distinguishing this specialty topic from the more generic "AI" branding crowding the field.
