Ecology¶
Bailey the Beaver is the mascot for the Ecology textbook. Beavers are textbook ecosystem engineers: their dam-building reshapes watersheds, creates wetland habitat for hundreds of other species, and demonstrates in a single animal how individual behavior cascades into ecosystem-scale change. Bailey was chosen because beavers are one of the rare species where the "ecology" lesson is visible in the animal itself — a beaver pond is a working diorama of trophic cascades, succession, and habitat creation. The choice is strong because the mascot's daily activity is the curriculum: every page about ecosystems, food webs, or human-wildlife interaction has a natural beaver-shaped illustration waiting to be drawn.
