Infographics¶
Percy the Peacock is the mascot for the AI Interactive Infographics textbook. Peacocks are nature's premier display creatures — their tail feathers are an evolutionary masterclass in attracting attention, conveying information (fitness signaling), and balancing density with readability, which are precisely the design goals of any good infographic. Percy was chosen because the metaphor is direct: an effective infographic, like a peacock's display, must catch the eye, convey real information at a glance, and reward closer inspection with additional detail. The choice is strong because peacock plumage gives the mascot an obvious visual vocabulary — fanning out for celebration poses, folding inward for thinking poses — that lets the character expressively model the design principles the book is teaching.
