Blockchain¶
Rex the Raccoon is the mascot for the Blockchain - The Skeptic's Guide textbook. Raccoons carry two traits that map directly to blockchain: a masked face that invites associations with pseudonymity and the cypherpunk roots of cryptocurrency, and a habit of carefully washing food before eating — a behavior that humorously parallels how blockchain nodes verify transactions before accepting them. Rex was chosen for the skeptic's-guide treatment because raccoons are famously clever, hands-on problem solvers who don't trust a shiny exterior. The choice is strong because the mascot models exactly the epistemic stance the book is trying to teach: curious, hands-on, verification-first, and unwilling to take crypto claims at face value.
