Food Science¶
Zyme the Yeast Cell is the mascot for Food Science. Yeast converts sugars through fermentation, producing carbon dioxide and flavor compounds central to bread, beverages, and many food-processing systems. Zyme comes from the Greek zymē, meaning leaven or ferment, the same root found in words such as enzyme. Zyme was chosen to make microscopic biological and chemical transformations visible as a recurring character. Because both the organism and the name encode a foundational food-science process, this is an exceptionally strong mascot choice.
